On November 23 and 24, São Paulo hosted the renowned Sustainable Cosmetics Summit, organized by Ecovia Intelligence (Organic). This prestigious event aims to positively impact the beauty industry, attracting an audience composed of cosmetic brand owners, manufacturers, packaging companies, retailers, among others. Senior executives from around the world gathered to promote substantial discussions on emerging sustainability issues in the cosmetics industry.
Natura was represented at the event by Iguatemi Costa, our Senior Scientific Manager, who gave a lecture on the theme “Ethical Sourcing of Natural Ingredients,” addressing biodiversity and traditional populations. A major focus was Natura's experience over these 20 years of operation and strategies for biodiversity conservation through the sustainable use of resources and the regeneration strategy, such as the methodology used in the SAF Dendê.
This edition of the event particularly focused on promoting circular beauty, incorporating sustainable ingredients, and assessing impacts on biodiversity. For the first time, strategies for transitioning towards circular systems in the cosmetics industry were explored. The agenda covered a wide range of topics, from advancements in the industry to the ethical sourcing of ingredients and innovative perspectives in marketing.
Organizing such an impactful event, with the purpose of fostering sustainability in the beauty industry and bringing together thought leaders to address the sector's challenges, represents a crucial and timely initiative. Focusing on these topics is essential, considering the significant role the beauty industry plays in global trends and practices. Directing attention to sustainability brings a series of benefits, not only for the companies involved but also for the sector as a whole, promoting more ethical and responsible practices.
