In 2021, Natura became a pioneer in the cosmetics sector by entering the beauty and personal care market with an innovative line called Natura Biome. This line, entirely vegan, aims to redefine production and consumption in a regenerative way, using 100% natural ingredients.
Natura Biome is a completely plastic-free brand and emerged as a result of a new approach to consumption, focused on regenerative solutions for both people and the planet, with a commitment not to negatively impact the environment.
For the development of Natura Biome, many years of research and technology were dedicated to creating and realizing the principles of the circular economy, especially in the regeneration of formulas and packaging. The main ingredient of this line is palm oil, obtained from the SAF Dendê project, the world's first agroforestry system. This project was led by Natura in collaboration with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa), the Mixed Agricultural Cooperative of Tomé-Açu (Camta), internationally recognized as a reference in agroforestry systems, and the International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). This type of paradigm-breaking research was only possible due to the support from FINEP in its first phase and USAID in the final validation.
The entire development and production process of Natura Biome took place entirely in Brazil, from the cultivation of raw materials, such as palm oil, to the technological research of the formulations, conducted at Natura's innovation laboratory in Cajamar (SP). The packaging solutions for these products were developed in partnership with suppliers who not only met the guideline of being plastic-free but also brought solutions for circularity and the use of renewable sources in their composition.
Natura Biome introduced other differentiating technologies, including an accessory made from bioresin generated by a bioprocess that converts carbon monoxide into polymer. The partner company that developed the resin received the Embrace award in the "Value Projects" category, Mango Material, which produced the storage container for the Biome line, using an innovative material that naturally integrates into the carbon cycle. Its technology converts methane gas into bioresin, making it biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
This sustainable approach intensifies Natura's commitment to ecology. For us, Biome represents an important commitment to changing consumption habits that we hope to see in the coming years.
