Natura has joined forces with The Body Shop to ban animal testing in the cosmetics industry worldwide by mobilizing its network to gather signatures for the campaign “Forever Against Animal Testing.” The petition from The Body Shop in partnership with Cruelty Free International, a non-governmental organization leading efforts to ban animal testing globally, has already gathered over five million signatures. The goal is to reach the support of eight million people and present the document to the UN (United Nations). The petition is available at http://bit.ly/apoieestacausa and can also be signed at one of the 128 The Body Shop stores in Brazil.
By supporting the campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics, Natura aims to engage its network of over 1.7 million consultants, 6,400 employees, and millions of customers to eliminate animal testing in the cosmetics industry worldwide.
Since 2006, Natura has not tested products or ingredients on animals. To ensure the effectiveness and safety of its products, the company increasingly invests in science, innovation, and technology, with integrated testing strategies and the use of alternative methods, such as 3D skin.
The Body Shop, whose acquisition by Natura was completed in September of this year, has never tested its products on animals and has been campaigning worldwide since 1989 to end this practice. Natura, The Body Shop, and Aesop are part of Natura &Co, a corporate identity that consolidates the creation of a global, multichannel, and multibrand cosmetics group driven by purpose. Aesop has also never tested products or ingredients on animals.
“This is a landmark moment for Natura. For over ten years, we have not tested on animals, and today we are mobilizing to advocate for the end of this practice across the cosmetics industry in line with our commitment to life. Now, we join The Body Shop to expand the reach of this campaign and engage our entire network in this movement. Natura and The Body Shop share the same vision that business should be a force for good,” says Andrea Alvares, vice president of marketing, innovation, and sustainability at Natura.
“It is evident that cruelty to animals in the cosmetics industry is a topic that people care deeply about. We are very happy to have Natura's support in this campaign. Together, we can achieve great things,” says Jessie Macneil-Brown, head of campaigns at The Body Shop.
