Applications open for the second round of the BioStartup Lab and the Biomaker Battle
The BioStartup Lab, the only pre-acceleration program for life sciences startups in Brazil, has opened applications for its second round. An initiative of Biominas Brasil and Sebrae Minas, the program, which has the support of Natura, aims to help entrepreneurs and researchers accelerate the transformation of their ideas and research into impactful solutions for the market and society.
Applications to participate in the selection can be made on the website until June 26th. In its first round, the BioStartup Lab received 533 applications from entrepreneurs from six countries and selected 21 teams from across Brazil.
In a short-duration program, lasting approximately 12 weeks, held in Belo Horizonte, those selected by the BioStartup Lab will engage in entrepreneurial immersion activities, with support to create, develop, test feasibility, develop a business model, and formulate a viable market entry strategy. Participants will have over 200 hours of acceleration, with more than 40 speakers and guests, and contact with over 30 mentors.
The highest-scoring teams also participate in the Demoday, a major event held to showcase them and connect them with investors and partners, where they present their solutions and strategies.
Biomaker Battle
Those interested in securing a spot in the second round of the BioStartup Lab can try to guarantee it in advance by participating in the Biomaker Battle, the first maker challenge for researchers in Brazil, which is also open for applications.
The Biomaker Battle is a scientific challenge for research projects in life sciences aimed at generating visibility for the quality of scientific work developed in Brazilian universities and research centers and creating opportunities for the practical application of this research in creating solutions for problems in the areas of human health, environment, agribusiness, and digital health. The event will last one day, and participating researchers will be challenged to build and present an application model that demonstrates the potential of their research in solving at least one problem of current society. “If you look closely, you will realize that the researcher is inherently endowed with the maker spirit, and what we will do is empower them, giving new meaning and protagonism to their scientific work,” emphasizes Rafael Silva, coordinator of the BioStartup Lab.
To participate, researchers must submit a completed or ongoing life sciences research project. 15 teams will be selected to participate in the challenge, which takes place in one day, at the coworking space of the BioStartup Lab and the maker space of the Laboratório Aberto - SENAI. Applications are open until June 6th, also on the BioStartup Lab website.
