To create a pioneering model for training professionals in innovation management and technology transfer to operate within the innovation system in the Amazon region, the Amazonas State Research Support Foundation (FAPEAM) and Natura joined forces and launched, in 2013, the program ‘Scholarships for acting in innovation management – Natura – FAPEAM’.
The aim is to develop skills in professionals who wish to work in the state of Amazonas with innovation management. The program involves process management, project and portfolio management, fundraising and management, negotiation and contracting of partnerships, and networking for research, technological development, and innovation.
The Pilot Project
The pilot project was developed over 12 months (between 2013 and 2014) and focused on both formal training and the development of projects that addressed issues specific to the company as well as practical solutions.
To make this possible, four female candidates residing in the state of Amazonas were selected to hold the scholarships. The selection stages consisted of application and eligibility based on the submission of responses to the challenge, as well as in-person interaction and individual interviews, both conducted by professionals from Natura and FAPEAM.
After these stages, the students were directed to the Natura Innovation Hub Amazon (NINA), where, based on their project/challenge, they received full support in terms of infrastructure and a “mentor” actively involved in innovation management. This “mentor” was selected from Natura's staff to provide guidance and exchange professional experiences.
During this period, the scholarship holders were able to interact directly with the NINA work environment, building a solid relationship with the Natura team and generating mutual learning. Additionally, they had access to a network of regional multi-agents, such as incubators, scientific and technological parks, startups, educational institutions, and researchers, among others.
New Call for Scholarship Selection
The pilot program for skills training in innovation management by FAPEAM and Natura was a great success. Continuing this partnership, Natura and FAPEAM decided to extend the Program. At the end of 2014, two scholarship holders who completed Cycle I were selected to implement built projects, accompany innovation managers in partnership processes, and deepen their learning, referred to as Cycle II of the Program.
Soon, Natura and FAPEAM will open a new Call for the selection of two scholarship holders to join Cycle I of 2015 and complete the FAPEAM scholarship team within the Program. To apply, it is necessary to be a resident of the state of Amazonas, have a completed higher education degree, and aim to work in the articulation and development of the national innovation system, focusing on the state of Amazonas.
