Inspiring Cases: Experience Design and Consumer Emotions

It can be a light that turns on when you open the door, or the doorbell that rings when you enter a certain store, and even smartphones that indicate the temperature as you walk down the street.

Interactivity and the pursuit of companies to generate new usage and consumption experiences of their products by consumers have become increasingly present today; it is no coincidence that we are surrounded by it in various forms, whether more or less interactive.

More and more companies are seeking to create new experiences for consumers that go beyond the simple use of the product, thus looking for an opportunity in experience design to connect more effectively and distinctively with their consumers.

Innovating the Experience in Maternity

The Huggies diaper line launched a campaign for Father's Day, where fathers could feel the movements made by the baby in the mother's womb through two belts, one for the pregnant woman and another for the future father. Sensors captured the movements and transmitted them to the fathers' belt in real-time. This way, the action provided a unique and surprising experience for fathers, who had the opportunity to feel the baby's movements in the mother's womb.

Another action was from the Hipoglós diaper rash cream line. In this case, the mother received a Bluetooth Alert Kit, which uses a sensor placed in the diaper and another reader that captures its signal and transmits the information. To receive the information, the mother must download an app on her phone. Thus, when the diaper becomes wet, the mother receives an alert on her phone, informing her that it is time to change her baby. This innovation used the care experience and the concern that the mother already had to keep track of her baby's day-to-day.

The examples mentioned above addressed important points through a cycle of experiences. These experiences can be directly linked to the use of the product or even to moments that lead us to a more intense interaction with a brand. Thus, experience design can identify and enhance consumer experiences with the brand through innovative products.
