FAPESP and Natura Launch Call for Research Center Creation

FAPESP and Natura Launch Call for Research Center Creation

Natura and FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) are launching the 2013 Research Proposal Call for the creation of the Applied Research Center for Well-Being and Human Behavior. This agreement aims to structure a research center focused on the development of cutting-edge scientific studies that integrate Neuroscience and Positive Psychology, to understand cultural and social patterns that will later be applied in the development of products, concepts, and services.

In total, the public-private funding for the project will be up to R$ 20 million over a period of up to 10 years, with half of the amount coming from Natura and the other half from FAPESP. The implementation and management of the program will be the responsibility of a partner institution to be selected by the call, with the proposal submission period from 11/26/2013 to 03/14/2014.

“Natura is the first Brazilian company with an initiative of this kind, which demonstrates its vision and commitment to research and innovation, important pillars for conducting our business,” says Gerson Valença Pinto, Vice President of Innovation at Natura. “The company's reason for being is intrinsically linked to the commercialization of products and services that promote people's well-being, which is why we conduct studies in this area,” adds the executive.

One of the major challenges for the advancement of knowledge today is the complexity of the problems addressed, which often requires extended timelines. Long-term funding supports long-duration research projects that require interdisciplinary approaches, allowing for successful treatment of complex problems.

The Applied Research Center for Well-Being and Human Behavior aims for a deep understanding of the Brazilian people, through the development of markers and indicators of Well-Being, Perception, and Quality of Life, as well as the structuring of a solid scientific base for innovation and technological application in the area. To this end, a structured project is sought to align basic and applied science, reflected in a schedule that includes annual short-term (2 years), medium-term (4 years), and long-term (10 years) partial deliveries from its implementation.
