According to news released in January 2013, Natura and UFSCAR formed a partnership to develop a conservation project for Virola surinamensis, popularly known as ucuuba (news link).
In the first quarter of this year, the project was presented to rural cooperatives in the Amazon that supply ucuuba seeds for our brand's products, namely: Movement of Women from the Islands of Belém (MMIB); Agricultural Cooperative Resistance of Cametá (CART); Cooperative of Fruit Growers of Abaetetuba (COFRUTA) and Agricultural Cooperative of Popular Entrepreneurs of Igarapé-Miri (CAEPIM).
The partnership has expanded and activities have begun.
The cooperators interested in being directly involved in the project registered for the selection process of multipliers, and after evaluation by the technical team, three multipliers were selected per cooperative.
Still in the first semester of this year, the demonstration units (UDs) were selected and the multipliers began training to develop activities under their supervision in the next two years of the project.
All activities are being carried out in a participatory manner. Local knowledge and life experience combine with technical knowledge, creating a unique combination in each location.
Excited team, project with good results!!!
