Meet the Winner of the Natura Campus Challenge for Sustainable Surfactants

In search of innovative solutions for the development of more sustainable products, the challenge sought proposals to replace synthetic surfactants.

We launched the Natura Campus Challenge for Sustainable Surfactants in October of last year.

In search of innovative proposals for the development of more sustainable products, the challenge aimed to receive technological solutions related to the use of renewable raw materials, with an emphasis on the use of renewable sources and low environmental impact processes to replace synthetic surfactants, which are poorly biodegradable and contribute to the depletion of non-renewable petrochemical resources on our planet.

The proposals were received through the Natura Campus portal and the submission deadline closed in March 2013. More than 800 people accessed the challenge page on the Natura Campus portal and 16 projects were received.

The benefits, the maturity of the presented technology, its potential for application, the replacement of the synthetic surfactant, and the effectiveness of the presented tests were evaluated.

Below is the approved project:

- ALKOPON ECO: Alexandra Pezzolo Pavanelli Sartori

As recognition, the winner will be awarded a course in their area of preference at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT Short Programs) in the United States.

This challenge was a great opportunity to gain knowledge of the network involved in the topic. Through it, it was possible to learn about new technologies and competencies from different institutions, such as universities, research centers, and companies. The challenges not only represent short-term demands; they are an important tool for building a network for potential partnerships in the future.

All participants will receive feedback on the evaluation of the submitted proposal via the registered email.

Currently, the Natura Campus Challenge for Flexible Packaging is open. The challenge will be open until 20/06/13 and aims to receive project proposals for the evolution of packaging, to be executed in partnership with Natura.

We renew our satisfaction with everyone's participation in this process and reinforce our desire to continue expanding the ways of interaction to identify opportunities and synergies in research and innovation.

We invite everyone to stay connected to the Natura Campus Program through our portal and social media, and to follow new collaboration opportunities.
