Natura Researchers at IFSCC 2024: Lucas Parizzi

Lucas Parizzi, from the Advanced Research, Biodata, and Artificial Intelligence area, presented at IFSCC 2024 his research developed at Natura.

The project aims to apply omics technologies, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence on a platform to develop ingredients that are safe, effective, and sustainable for cosmetic use.

In a context of high demand for natural ingredients, not only in the cosmetic field but also in the food and pharmaceutical sectors, alternatives have been sought for formulating products with minimal synthetic composition. Natural ingredients often exhibit unique biological properties, thanks to the presence of secondary metabolites, such as alkaloids, terpenoids, and flavonoids.

In this sense, the study of plants and bioingredients becomes challenging due to the complexity and variations of the molecules that can be influenced by factors such as climatic and geographical conditions.

The case studied focused on synergistic ingredients extracted from the Tucumã-do-Pará: seed butter and pulp oil. The platform used is capable of providing data on the molecules present, thanks to an integrated system of technologies, such as metabolomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence. Thus, the main relevance of this work lies in the optimization of research and the elucidation of ingredients for their incorporation as actives in cosmetic formulations.
