From April 17 to 19, 2012, in Belém/PA, the VI Meeting of the National Forum of Innovation and Technology Transfer Managers – FORTEC* will be held.
This is the most important and comprehensive annual meeting of technology and innovation managers from Brazilian science and technology institutions. The discussions within the event are extremely productive for obtaining insights from the actors of the Brazilian National Innovation System, as representatives from the government and companies involved in innovation activities also participate. The closer interaction between the actors of the SNI and the formulation of strategies that promote innovation in Brazil are key aggregating elements that also result in analyses contributing to the formulation of public policies.
In 2012, the theme to be addressed will be Green Economy – Sustainable Business, focusing on discussions related to environmental sustainability that can stimulate discussions and lead to the generation of sustainable businesses or contribute to clarifying the general society on the topic.
According to the event's organization, the VI FORTEC was inspired by the socio-environmental need to develop and innovate by generating businesses that do not destroy the environment, that are sustainable, and that build a path where science, innovation, and nature advance in generating economic and social benefits.
The meeting will be promoted by the ICTs that make up FORTEC – North, the Eastern Amazon NIT Network, and the Western Amazon NIT Network, coordinated by the Goeldi Museum and INPA/MCTI, with Natura as one of its sponsors.
*FORTEC: “Created on May 1, 2006, FORTEC has become the main body representing professionals from universities and research institutes responsible for managing innovation policies and activities related to intellectual property and technology transfer – including, in this concept, the centers, agencies, offices, and their equivalents.
To fulfill its purposes, FORTEC works with eleven specific objectives, among which the following stand out:
- Disseminate the culture of innovation, intellectual property, and technology transfer;
- Enhance and disseminate the role of universities and research institutions in cooperation activities with the public and private sectors;
- Assist in the creation and institutionalization of Technological Innovation Centers (NIT);
- Stimulate the professional training of those working in NIT” (SANTOS et al., 2009).
