With immense pride, we announce Natura's sponsorship of the 13th World Congress on Alternatives and the Use of Animals in Science - WC13, the largest and most important global event dedicated to promoting alternative methods to the use of animals in research, testing, and education. And this edition will be even more special, as it will take place for the first time in the southern hemisphere, in Rio de Janeiro from August 31 to September 4, 2025.
WC13 is an event that reflects the essence of our purpose. For us, this is not just a sponsorship, but a celebration of a journey we began over 27 years ago, driven by a fundamental belief in respecting all forms of life. And at the best possible moment, with the approval of law no. 15.183, which prohibits animal testing for the development of cosmetic products in Brazil.
From the beginning, our science has been guided by ethics. Long before it was a legal requirement, we took on the responsibility of developing cosmetics of the highest quality and safety without causing animal suffering. This commitment has positioned us at the global forefront of cruelty-free innovation.
Based on the principles of respect for life, biological diversity, and ethics that inspire Natura's business behavior, we publicly declare our position against laboratory testing on animals.
In 1998, we created the Product Safety Committee to recommend alternative testing. That same year, we committed to not testing on animals and began adopting initiatives to reduce the need for this practice (within the company and with suppliers).
In 2003, Natura completely eliminated the use of animals in testing finished cosmetic products.
Between 2001 and 2003, we reduced the number of animal tests on raw materials by 69%. Testing was completely eliminated in 2006.
Since 2018, Natura has held the Cruelty Free International certification, one of the oldest and most respected organizations in the fight to end animal testing, with the Leaping Bunny seal. This achievement made us the first company in Latin America to receive this certification. In October of the same year, recognition came from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Avon also maintains a strong global stance against animal testing and has actively supported and strengthened scientific organizations for 30 years, such as the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), the Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments (FRAME), and Humane Society International (HSI).
